With AI advancing, are there concerns that identities of crossdressers could be discovered by others through facial recognition technology?
Oh, absolutely.
When I present as male, I am always crossdressing, even if it’s just panties under my boy clothes. I am aware of what I am wearing and the risk of the lacey waistband peeking out and I do what is necessary to keep this side of me discreet.
But technology is not something I feel I have as much control over. Especially now. When I started to post photos years and years ago, photo recognition software was just something in spy movies but social media sites have the ability to recognize someone and even tag them. Facebook seems to be the biggest culprit here and this is the primary reason I don’t have an account.
Technology continues to surpass expectations and it may as well be sorcery as far as I am concerned. Since this “feature” of photo recognition is impossible to regulate I don’t feel there is really anything I can do. I mean, I could stop posting photos and take down my website but I feel that is too late. Once something is posted online, it’s there forever.
So, instead of worrying about it, I can only prepare myself for having The Talk if technology outs me to someone who doesn’t know about alllll this.
It’s not unlike going to the mall en femme. Is it possible someone from HIS life will recognize me? Sure. Would stopping going out en femme prevent this? Sure. Do I want this fear do prevent me from doing what makes me happy? No.
Everything a non-out gender non-confirming person does is a risk. We can accept this and live our life or we can deny who we are and stay home.
Regardless of how we are outed, whether by technology or someone seeing that I am wearing panties, what happens next is always between that someone and myself. Being prepared to have The Talk is something we should all be ready for, at least mentally.

Have a question for me? Oh yes you do. Ask me here!
Great commentary Hannah! Thanks for the reminder that we can’t live in fear. To do so would not be living. So important we are true to ourselves.
Best,

All this new face matching and image manipulation software has created a new deep fake pornography opportunity where an innocent ‘crossdresser‘ such as Hannah may find her body used as a template with somebody elses face inserted to embarrass that somebody

You’re right, no one wants to be outed, but this side of us always comes with a risk of that. The risks increase the more visible we are, whether online or out in the real world.
If it helps, I post on social media and here, and I am out in the world on a regular basis and I’ve never run into anyone who didn’t know about me.
