Ask Hannah!

I love your blog, it is awesome. I’m from New Zealand and have crossdressed my whole life.

I’m going out this weekend en femme for the first time, what would you you recommend to wear on your first time?

Kia ora!

I hope that’s right. According to Google that is an appropriate greeting in New Zealand.

The real answer is to wear whatever you wish. Even if you are going to the mall and you want to wear a floor length gown.

When I plan an outfit, I consider a few things.

What is the event?

What will the weather be like?

Am I looking to blend in or do I not care?

This will give you a little bit to go on. But most of the time my outfit comes down to my heels. If I am going to be doing a lot of walking or standing, then I need to consider that. Some stilettos are just fine as long as I am walking, but if I stand still too long, then they can become uncomfortable. If I am going to be walking outside, especially on grass, then I go for something with a chunkier heel, usually a knee-high boot.

Once I have figured out my heels, then I plan my outfit. If I am wearing boots, I tend to go for a skirt/blouse outfit. Most of the dresses I own don’t really go with boots. If I am wearing heels, then I choose a dress that compliments them.

Ultimately you’ll want to wear something that YOU like, that YOU feel comfortable in, that You feel confident and beautiful in. How you feel about yourself, whether it’s your outfit or just about, well, life, will be projected. People pick up on vibes more than they admit, I feel.

I hope this helps! Have fun!

Love, Hannah

  1. Good advice for picking an outfit! I often find myself picking an outfit based on what shoes I want to wear, then at the last minute worrying about walking and standing comfortably. So I keep the outfit and swap to flats or sneakers. And that means I have a bunch of cute heels that never get worn! It’s terrible. I need to just go for it!

  2. Hi to a fellow Kiwi, for me when i first went out it was to Sylvia Park on a Saturday during a school holiday.

My advice is to find somewhere that you feel comfortable and interesting to you. Whether it is the mall, library, supermarket etc. I like going to the library, supermarket and art galleries.

As to what to wear, make sure that it is an outfit you are comfortable in and suitable/appropriate to where you are going.

I have found that most people are too busy in their own lives to worry about anyone else and are not looking or seeing what is going on.

Whatever it is enjoy the time.
