The Trans Experience

Hi!

The Neville Public Library in Green Bay, Wisconsin is hosting an art installation called The Transperience until August 18th.

According to their website, The Transperience is a multi-medium immersive and digital installation featuring a three screen 15-minute audio/video loop depicting personal insights of Transgender individuals. The video is projected on large screens in the gallery. The video is activated by visitors to the gallery.

To live a life as a Transgender person is to be misunderstood, discriminated against, bullied, and often isolated by spouses, family, friends, and co-workers.  Personal identity has become politicized to the point that across the nation, state legislatures have introduced hundreds of bills to limit Transgender care, respect, and basic human rights. Many of those bills have become law. As individuals, we are under personal attack for simply living our authentic lives.

Despite the barriers, Trans persons who sort through the confusion, obstacles, and barriers which confront us and the world in which we live, can and do embrace our authentic selves. With support, acceptance and our own inner conviction we experience profound joy and peace. Gender euphoria replaces gender dysphoria.

Those who enter The Transperience will experience a personal understanding of the joys, sorrows, trials and celebrations of Trans life. The stories and testimonials in The Transperience are deeply personal. They are stories of successfully navigating a life as a transgender person. The Transperience is an often a moving and emotional experience for viewers.

This exhibit is done in partnership with the Bay Area Council on Gender Diversity. BACGD’s website continues with:
