How does one start a crossdressing blog?
Starting a blog is one thing. That is super easy.
Maintaining a blog is entirely different.
You can create a blog through a few different websites, such as WordPress and Blogger. I have used WordPress for a very long time and it used to be very intuitive but it’s a little cumbersome now. However, just like anything, once you start playing around with it, you’ll likely figure it out.
One thing that WordPress did that I don’t like is them recently removing spell check. I mean, there’s an upgrade option for an AI enhanced writing tool which will put spell checking back into what I write, but I hate AI, lol. So, if there are more typos than usual, pleassssse let me know.
If you are going to start a blog, here are a few things to consider:
- Be consistent. Many blogs start strong and post regularly, even multiple times throughout the day but tend to run out of steam and soon weeks go by without a post. If your goal is to create content that people read and respond to, then you need to make sure that readers feel that you as the writer are invested in your website. This is demonstrated by regular posting.
- Create a posting schedule and stick to it. Some blogs update daily, such as Stana’s Femulate. Sometimes I go through streaks where I post every single day, but at a minimum I post Monday, Wednesday, and Friday.
- Have a blog that focuses on something. I think this is where I could improve. Over the course of a month my posts range from Ask Hannah! questions, pictures from a photo shoot, a new law that is creeping its way through Congress, self-indulgent promotion, and random ramblings. It’s a little bit of a lot of stuff. However, the “voice” of my website is, I feel, consistent. I try to be relatable and direct and emphasize that this side of is FUN and should be celebrated. I don’t feel that this side of us is a burden but I do write about the reality of how who we are can impact our relationships.
- Tagging is important because that’s how search engines can point people to your site. When I post, I will use relevant tags that indicate what the post is about. My most common tags include Minnesota, Crossdressing, Ask Hannah!, Clothes, and Marriage. By clicking a tag, readers will be directed to other posts that focus on the same topic AND with that word appearing frequently on your site it’s easier for Google to recommend your site. If you are married and your spouse crossdresses and you are looking for resources, googling “crossdressing and marriage” will bring up results, and this website is among the top results. Same with “crossdressing and Minnesota”. If you want to meet others like yourself in your area, tagging your state/city is a way for others to find your site.
- Finally, don’t give up. Your site should ultimately be something you enjoy doing even if no one reads or comments on it. It may take months or years to gain traction or attention but I feel that a blog needs to, well, prove that it’s something the author will stick with. If I find a blog and there’s not been an update in weeks, I likely won’t return as it looks like the author abandoned it. If the writer isn’t interested in posting, why would I be interested in interacting with it?
I hope this helps!
Love, Hannah
Have a question for me? Oh yes you do. Ask me here!
The more the merrier. We can’t have enough representation in my opinion. I personally have the idea of a podcast on my radar. A platform to hear directly from our community. What an opportunity for the world to learn that there are more of us out here than they realize and hopefully unlock the closet door for many.
