Earlier this year I was part of a photo shoot for UnderDare which is a physical shop in south Minneapolis that sells gender affirming undergarments, from binders to gaffs to tucking leggings.

I’ve known Marcy, the owner and founder of underDARE for about a year now and it’s really fun to see her mission and her business grow and gain media attention. I was delighted to see her shop featured in the recent issue of Lavender Magazine.
Two photos in the article were taken by my friend Shannonlee and it was so fun to see her work in a published magazine. And it was fun to see me in the article too, lol.
Maybe it’s the coffee talking and giving me a false sense of optimism, but I really think that we are closer to seeing gender affirming clothing to becoming more mainstream. I don’t think it’s unrealistic to think that maybe, just maybe, in like fifty years, we see department stores selling inclusive items for people of all genders.

I agree. We are close to that as those of us who refuse to define garments as only appropriate for one biological sex find shopping well received and more casually noticed by other shoppers. I don’t always shop fully made up or dressed in a skirt and heels. I might be wearing a nice looking pair of flats with skinny jeans while shopping for an attractive top. Many department stores seem to be cutting down on the number of clerks so I have to search for appropriate sizes by myself. Sometimes I have to wait at on of the service counter just to get checked out. I am sure I could get better help in more specialized shops. Tom/Pippin
