Ask Hannah!

Hello, love your website! Found you through Xdress.com. I was reading your article on body hair and was curious if you had ever tried laser or any at home IPL? We are thinking of trying it and I was just curious because your skin looks great.

Thank you!

I have not. However, there seems to be a lot of at-home devices and such appearing more often on the shelves of Target or whatever. I’ve always been skeptical at how effective (and safe) they are and the price tends to be a deciding factor.

However, the technology must be improving to the point where maybe I should consider the investment. I mean, things like this are an investment, right?

Has anyone tried anything that they swear by? Please please please comment below!

Love, Hannah

Have a question for me?  Oh yes you do.  Ask me here!

  1. Hannah, all I can say is if you want to try laser hair removal, do it before your hair turns grey. That stuff doesn’t work then and it’s too late for me.

  2. Hi. I have done full electrolysis on my face and laser on the rest of my body. I have also tried every other hair removal method (IPl, wax, shave, sugaring, nair, epilator). What I have learned:

    1. Electrolysis is the only permanent method for any color hair. Expensive.
    2. laser only works on dark hair. Not as expensive but also not as permanent. I had to switch to electrolysis on parts of my body when all that was left was gray, white and blonde hairs. Regrowth on my legs is minimal.
    3. IPL is useless.I tried several and saw nothing after months of use.
    4. waxing is a great temporary fix. It hurts on a full face beard and on the Brazilian area and the main part of the chest, but hey, if your dedicated, what’s a little temporary pain.
    5. sugaring and nair are good for a quick fix.
    6. epilator is time consuming and painful. Also is pretty horrible in the genital area.

    Hope this helps,

  3. While I use an at-home IPL device and am seeing some progress, the verdict on these gadgets is rather mixed. I assume that it largely depends on three factors: the color of your hair, the color of your skin, and your discipline.

For the device I own, the recommended use is twice a week, three rounds. This quickly turns into a very time-consuming task. The window is around 1″x2″ in size, and you have about one shot every two seconds. So, forget the thought of simply using it on your whole body.

I have fair skin and dark hair (where it’s not grey already), and for me the device works. As a result, I can now easily go 24 hours without shaving, and without hairs poking through my makeup. However, I only use it on my face. For my arms and legs, I use an epilator, which consumes much less time.

When purchased new, these devices are very expensive. However, when you look on Ebay, you can find used ones for cheap. And as you can easily wipe them clean, there is no shame in that.

    Hope this helps
    Cheers!

  4. I usually just shave, but can’t reach most of my back, so I’ve been getting my back waxed at a local place and they are fantastic. I’d love to try laser, I know a few folks that have done it, and there is some pain involved, but it’s about the same as waxing. At least, that’s what I’ve been told, I don’t know firsthand!
