Do you know of any similar groups to the MN T-Girls outside of Minnesota? I now live in North Carolina and was looking for a similar group here but have not had much luck with that.
Hi!
I do not. Perhaps someone reading this can suggest one in the comments that I am not aware of.
My suggestion for anyone looking for a support/social group that can’t find one is to consider starting one yourself. I am a firm believer in if you can’t find the book you want to read, then perhaps write it yourself. I feel this perspective can be applied to a lot of other things, such as a group like the MN T-Girls.
Of course, it’s easier said than done, but things tend to start small and manageable but over time grow bigger. A group like this looks overwhelming but please remember that we have been around for almost twelve years. It took over a decade to grow into what we are now. Our beginnings were small and humble but over the years we grew organically.
If you don’t feel you can do this, trust me, I know how you feel. I am not a very social person and I feel that I am the last person on the planet that should be in charge of a social group, but over time I became more confident and excited about us. The group grew, and so did I.
Love, Hannah
Have a question for me? Oh yes you do. Ask me here!
Sometimes you need to dig in and start checking around. I didn’t realize we had any groups around my area until I found a Meetup group (www.meetup.com ) that was for Pennsylvania T-girls. I checked out the events and have gone to a few. Sometimes it may take some digging, but there’s probably a group near you.
Also, a suggestion is to look at some of the transgender conferences that happen across the country. Even if you’re not ready for an event that big, they might have some suggestions or resources for your area to dig in a little more. I know the Pennsylvania Keystone Conference has a whole list of other conferences.
You can also look for gay bars or venues that have drag shows in the area. While those places may not have events, they might have suggestions, flyers or online info for groups.
While not as much fun, there are also virtual events that you can join, too. Again, they may not be what you’re looking for, but they might also have references for you to check out.
Or as Hannah suggested, you can always make a group yourself! “If you build it, they will come.”
