Pride and Fear

The Twin Cities is having its annual Pride celebration next weekend and like previous years, the MN T-Girls will be there.

This is going to sound pessimistic but every year I am convinced it will be canceled or SOMETHING will happen. If you’ve been following the news (and honestly I don’t blame you if you haven’t been) you probably know that last Saturday was a tragic and frightening day. The suspect reportedly had intentions of, ah, disrupting the No Kings demonstrations that were scheduled for that day as well.

This year my fear of some horrible person doing something evil at Pride is bigger than ever.

I am honestly surprised that our president hasn’t ruled that Pride celebrations are illegal or whatever and did his best to stop them from happening, but I suppose there is still time to do that. His disdain for the LGBTQ+ community is pretty clear as his administration has announced the dismantling of suicide preventation support for queer youth.

Regardless of this fear and the very clear message that our community doesn’t deserve support from the president, we will still be there. We will be in the green zone, booth 217 if you feel like stopping by. I’ll be there all day Saturday, but not Sunday.

Love, Hannah

  1. Here in Chicago plans for next weekend Pride Parade are still on. Trump is a real a**hold! I’m not sure how he was elected? All the s**theads that voted for him.

  2. The fear is so real this year—and I hate that it’s become part of the experience for so many of us. But I also love how you framed it: fear doesn’t cancel our pride (very applicable in my personal life right now!). Thank you for showing up, for being visible, and for creating space for others to do the same. Wishing you and the MN T-Girls a beautiful, safe weekend. 💜
