T-Girl and T-Rex

Not made with AI

This is the stupidest image I have ever created but once I had the idea I had to do it. I’m sorry.

Last Friday combined two of my favorite things:

Corsetry!

Dinosaurs!

A few months back I discussed my corset problems and wondered if I was wearing the right style. Specifically I was trying to correct the problem of the bottom of my corset sticking out as seen in this photo.

Of course, a tight outfit will make the corset more noticable, but I felt that I could wear my corset in a way that I could make it more… flush with my body. The bottom of it would roll up a little and it wasn’t flattering.

I tried a longer, overbust corset but I encountered a new and similar problem but this time at the top of it (as seen here).

I also thought the back lacing could be tighter and more effective when it came to reshaping my body.

Soooo this was frustrating.

And yes, these are not *real* problems so let’s get that out of the way, lol.

I did a little googling and found KMK Designs.

From their website:

KMK is a small LGBTQ+ woman-owned business with over 35 years of experience that loves creating quality clothing for everyone. We believe that clothing should make you feel as beautiful as you are, no matter what society’s standard is. Here at KMK, we are Body Positive and Pro-Choice. We believe trans rights are human rights and that black lives matter.

We create outfits from gorgeous bridal gowns to everyday wear from fabrics we hand-pick to be high quality, comfortable and elegant. Since 2008 KMKDesigns has created Steampunk, Gothic and Neo-Victorian clothing and wedding dresses with care and great craftsmanship.

Perfect! And what’s even more perfect is that they custom make corsets. If anyone knows anything about how to wear one correctly, this was the place. I sent an email and scheduled a consultation/fitting with the owner/designer Kaitlyn.

I brought the two corsets that I am wearing in the above photos and learned a LOT. One thing I learned is that I am wearing a corset one size too small. This makes sense as I bought them before I gained a little weight.

Buuuut the other thing I learned is that the two corsets I wear were designed for someone with hips. I do not have *real* hips. Kaitlyn suggested I wear hip/thigh pads to minimize the flaring out problem that I have been having.

This was very affirming. What was also affirming was that I am indeed wearing my corset properly and it is laced and tied correctly.

She showed me a few of the custom corsets she has made and my new financial goal is to have my own made for me. Yes, I am serious, lol. How amazing would that be??

After the appointment, I went up the street to the Science Museum of Minnesota. I heart dinosaurs and there was a new Omni Theatre film about everyone’s favorite Thunder Lizard That Isn’t A Lizard, Tyrannosaurus Rex. I met my friends Sophie and Abby and we had a very nice Friday night looking at dinosaur bones and other sciencey stuff. Like this chair and boat which were there for some sciencey reason.

It was a very fun day, actually. There’s something really exciting (for me anyway) about taking the afternoon off of work and doing something like this. I work too much, and I worry about work when I am not working. Part of this whole THING I am working on when it comes to my frustration and anger about my job is letting things play out and not concerning myself with things that other people choose to do. Stepping away for an afternoon might not seem significant, but it was for me.

Love, Hannah

  1. In your message, you stated: “This is the stupidest image I have ever created”.
Do not be so hard on yourself – I suspect you have created many things stupider than this one!
    Just trying to be helpful!

  2. love this for you and I think you looked amazing! Red really does it for you!

You’ve also inspired me to consider more places go go enfemme and museums seem like an ideal one especially since people are really taken with the exhibits and probably spend zero time passing judgment on others! We have a beautiful art museum here in Manchester, NH and I’m going to go there at my earliest opportunity, all thanks to you!

  3. This is definitely something that I’ve run into with my corsets. I’m sure my wife will be thrilled to know that I’m going to be looking at custom corsets… but hey, there are worse hobbies!

As for the day off and getting away. I’m trying to do the same with stepping away from work. Its tough sometimes, but getting away en femme is such a wonderful idea!
