How the Grinch Helped Hannah’s Heart Grow Three Sizes

As soon as Target puts away the back to school stuff, the Christmas decorations come out. I mean, yes, Halloween comes first, but it doesn’t take long for tinsel to replace spider webs.

The end of the year holidays, like mascara flecks on your cheek, are inevitable. They are going to happen, whether you like it or not.

This year my wife and I decided to, well, take a proactive approach to the holidays and plan things that we want to do. Whether it’s setting time for us to stay home and watch a movie or, I don’t know, go Christmas shopping. Small things.

I mean, isn’t that what life is all about? Especially during this time of the year?

Usually the holidays just… happen to us and we are pulled in so many directions that it’s hard to really just enjoy the last few weeks of the year.

My, I sound like the Grinch, don’t I?

Nice transition, right?

This weekend I was invited to see a preview of “How the Grinch Stole Christmas!” as performed by the Children’s Theatre Company in Minneapolis. This was the second time I was a guest and I absolutely was enchanted by the actors, the set, the music… everything.

I wasn’t sure what the play would be like. Would it be inspired by the Dr. Suess book? Or the animated special? Or the live-action movie? Or the animated movie?

I think it the play took a little from each but honestly, the play is it’s own thing. It’s the story we all know and just… brought to life. I honestly felt I was in Whoville. The sets were outstanding and there were at least two moments I wondered how on earth they did *that*. I mean, in a movie you assume that all special effects are CGI but for this? It was magic.

The Grinch, in addition to stealing Christmas, stole the show. He had all the charisma of a good villain. It was fun seeing this with so many kids in the audience as they were initially scared of him but over the course of the story they fell in love with him.

It was a wonderful evening. Thank you to the Children’s Theatre Company for the invitation and for an enchanting play.
