Review: The Tight Spot

I just don’t feel properly dressed without stockings or tights.

There are obvious and pragmatic benefits to wearing stockings or tights. Beige can even out my skin color. They can also help with fitting into a stiletto that is just a teeeeeny bit too narrow.

But! My favorite effect is just how eye-catching and head turning they are. Seamed stockings are just so subtle and sexy. A shiny pair of black stockings makes me melt.

I must admit that as essential as I feel stockings are, they are not something I usually invest in. Quality is almost always pricey and although I feel my presentation is worth investing in, I hate spending money on something I am not entirely sure will fit.

I review size charts and I get frustrated when a pair of stockings only go up a little past my knees. I know not a lot of women are as tall as I am so I can understand if tights are not necessarily designed for legs like mine.

Because of this, I do look for additional options for stockings. I tend to be pretty loyal when it comes to sticking with a brand or designer so once I find something that works I am usually a customer for my life.

You can add The Tight Spot to the list of businesses that not only have options for legs like mine but are wonderfully inclusive.

I admit I hadn’t heard of The Tight Spot until they reached out to me asking if I wanted to review their stockings. I looked at all their options for tights, holdups, and stockings. They also have bodysuits and leggings as well.

I chose a pair of beige hold ups as well as a pair of black stockings. My go-to color for stockings is always beige so I was excited to see if I could find something a little more durable than the brand I normally wear. I decided to put them to the test.

I scheduled a photo shoot not only to have professional pictures of them, but photo shoots require a lot of outfit changes. For this particular shoot I would be taking the stockings off and then back on and then off again as I changed outfits, including the stockings. 

If a stocking can survive that, I would be impressed. And! It’s not uncommon for a shoot to consist of me walking around without stilettos which runs the risk of them getting snagged against some imperfection of the floor.

I was happy (and relieved) that the beige survived this grueling (lol) test. And! They looked fabulous.

I was also very happy that the grippyiness of the stockings powered through the day and! they were long enough. Hold ups don’t always go up my legs as far as I need them to.

For the black stockings I was a little more apprehensive. They would require a garter belt and although black stockings and a garter belt are arguably theeee hottest thing a girl can wear, I was a little nervous.

Some stockings have fabric that is a little toooooo thick for the garter fastener, especially if the fastener is the cheap, flexible plastic style. Pro tip: the metal, claw type version is the way to go. 

But there was no concern with these. They stayed put, they were long enough, and they looked beautiful.

I had so much doing this shoot. And I am so glad I found quality stockings. Stockings are probably the thing I am asked most about so I am happy to recommend The Tight Spot for their selection and their quality.

  2. Dang it, Hannah! I literally just bought new tights yesterday! Ugh, I really need to figure out how to see the future. Just 24 hours ahead would be enough.

  3. What a wonderful set of photos and a great post!

    I have been wearing “nylons” of some sort –stockings or pantyhose– for more than 60 years!

    Since the day I first fastened a pair of real nylon stockings to the garters of my panty girdle!

    My life as a woman wouldn’t be complete without a pair of pantyhose on my legs whenever I wear a dress and high heels.

    There is INCREDIBLE POWER in pantyhose on my legs or on the legs of another woman.

    I can think back to THIRD GRADE when my very young (well, she seemed OLD to me) teacher wore pantyhose with a skirt or a dress almost every day of the year.

    I couldn’t stop staring and I couldn’t stop thinking *I* want to be just like her!

    I’ve been through them all … L’Eggs, No Nonsense, Beauty Mist, Hanes, Burlington, Donna Karan, CK, Victoria’s Secret, Aristoc, Pretty Polly, and Wolford.

    What makes me sad now is walking through a department store and finding a messy display with hardly any variety at all … or worse, NO pantyhose at all.

    I am glad I lived through the glory days of pantyhose, but so sad those days are over.

  5. It’s been a while since I ordered from them but I recommend them highly! They bring a world of hosiery to your fingertips if you feel the need to explore European brands and styles. Some brands come with steep prices, others not so much. Sizing can be somewhat of a gamble at times but that’s life at the shorter and taller ends of the spectrum…😉

  6. As a hosiery addict, I’m always on the prowl for a great pair of hose! I too am tall and have a hard time finding hose that make it all the way up, so I appreciate your review of The Tight Spot.

    Also, can I just say how much I envy you in this post? My ultimate dream is to become a hosiery model❣️ And you did it here as well as any I’ve ever seen!

  8. I have been wearing “nylons” –stockings and pantyhose– for over 60 years!

    Since the day this little girl first fastened a pair of real nylons to the garters of her Vanity Fair panty girdle.

    I loved the feel of those real nylons so much that I was disappointed when pantyhose burst on the scene and it became more and more difficult to find stockings in the department stores of my youth.

    I *do* vividly remember my third grade teacher back in the 60s, a beautiful long-legged young woman, would ALWAYS wear a pair of nylons with a skirt or a dress.

    I would stare at her legs incessantly, thinking “*I* want to be like her when I grow up!

    Fast forward to 2024 and there’s disappointment again as what was once a “kid in a candy store” treat with so many brands and styles to choose from has declined into an almost non-existent section of the stores.

    I’ve been through them all … L’Eggs (some stolen from the grocery stores), No Nonsense, Burlington, Beauty Mist, JC Penney, Victoria’s Secret (they sold some great pantyhose back in the day), CK, Donna Karan, Pretty Polly, Aristoc, and Wolford.

    There *IS* “power in pantyhose,” whether they’re on my legs or on the legs of another woman!

    1. Hi Gini! As I read your post, I nodded my head in agreement with so much that you wrote. But once I read your last sentence, I knew I had to reply!

      On a cold winter night many years ago, I was taking my college girlfriend on a date. I arrived at her apartment and she was wearing an outfit that included a mini-skirt and pantyhose. When I asked if she would be warm enough, she replied “you underestimate the power of pantyhose!” I wanted to tell her that I was fully aware of their power, as I was completely enthralled by the sight of her silky legs (and every other woman’s legs who wears them). And that I was even more captivated by the irresistible desire to wear them myself, to feel that sensuous fabric on my own legs.

      And even today, after decades of wearing pantyhose and tights and stockings of every shade and pattern and style, I still find myself completely under their spell!
