When all of *this* was just about lingerie, I treasured each moment that dressing took. I patiently and carefully pulled my stocking up my smooth, hairless leg. I took extra time to make sure my garters were properly fastened to the lace top stocking as well as to my corset or basque… Everything had to be perfect.
When I would daydream about dressing head to toe I imagined I would take the extra time to make sure I was properly attired under my dress as well. Garters, stockings…
But of course this soon to prove impractical. Getting out of a car in heels and a skirt wasn’t easy to do gracefully and took time to, well, not perfect this, but do it a little less awkwardly.
I learned one of the most frustrating things that could happen is my garter becoming undone. I would have to refasten it and there’s nothing more annoying than feeling your stocking slide down your leg as you searched desperately for a ladies room to adjust.
It didn’t take long for me to learn that practicality was usually more important than these small details that no one would probably notice. So, my underdressing when en femme was a little less exciting as I switched to nylons, tights, and pantyhose.
I switched to stay-up thigh highs a few years ago but I’ve recently switched back to pantyhose as some dresses I wear are a little too short without flashing the top of my stockings.
This question more or less touches on deciding between what is unquestionably sexier compared to what is infinitely easier.

My stay up thigh high don’t stay up! Even brand new ones. It’s not the elastic maybe skinny thighs?

Underneath is definitely my preference. But yes, I agree. For practicality, I usually go with the trusty 60 denier tights.
Best of both worlds. Just time and place determines which.

There’s nothing about wearing lingerie that is practical, particularly as a man, but that is part of the attraction. It’s generally not socially acceptable, it takes a great deal of effort and causes obstacles to overcome throughout the day. I’m know that pantyhose is more practical, and that panties over garter straps is more convenient when wearing stockings, but options like that negate some of the pleasure for me. I take great care choosing and putting on my lingerie, and it always gives me great pleasure, therefore the effort I have to provide to adjust it or accommodate it into my everyday activity isn’t a chore, it’s an important part of the whole experience. I will always choose sexy over easy!

I’ve never found pantyhose to be very comfortable, I’m not sure why, but I’ve always tended to stockings for that reason. I usually do stay-ups, but garters are so much more alluring.
I don’t get to dress very often, so I tend to dress for special occasions anyway.
