Ladies and Gentleman, Start your Vibrating

The MN T-Girls have done many cultural themed events, whether it is a visit to a beautiful museum or a night out at the theatre. We are a classy, sophisticated group, after all.

This past Saturday we added another highbrow event to our outings when we attended the first Dildo Derby at the Black Hart in Saint Paul.

What in the world is the Dildo Derby? you may be asking yourself, which is a fair question. Essentially participants purchased a kit which included some wheels, a block of wood, and a dildo from Smitten Kitten. From there, the participant crafted a small racecar which was used to, well, race against other contestants.

Of course, the cars had to look fabulous.

One of our members, Sophie, entered and here’s a picture of her and her car.

…and some photos of the other cars.

The event was hosted by Dick Von Dyke, one of the city’s best known drag kings.

None of us had any idea what the event would be like, but there were about forty racers and of course, contestants went all out. People wore costumes and had their fans/pit crews, and it was just a very silly night.

The races soon began and here’s a video of Sophie’s car in the first round.

Sophie went onto the quarter finals and it was so fun cheering her on. I didn’t get a lot of photos of us as a group but I think we all had fun being outside on a beautiful summer evening in our amazing, imperfect city.

Love, Hannah

  1. It was such a fun event! Thank you, Hannah, and the other folks who showed up to join in the party! I made it to the quarter finals this time. That means I need to get to the actual final next time!

  2. Oh, also, I thought the title of your post might be a reference to Ladies and Gentlemen, We Are Floating in Space, by Spiritualized. But it was not. So I need to say this in the hopes that someone else will listen to the song for the first time and fall in love with it like I did.

    1. I gave it a listen. There sound reminds me a little of Mark Mallman, Radio Head, Enigma. Very relaxing and transcendent elements to it.
