Your Wish is My Command (maybe)

The other day I posted the latest episode of Wishlist. Did you watch it??

Anyway, they are fun videos to make but they are a little bittersweet as I feel the concept of it has, well, failed. What I mean is that the series is meant to help girls like us do SOMETHING in the real world for the first time while presenting as a gender that is different from the one they were assigned at birth.

We knew there would be challenges. After all, it’s not an easy thing to do to go out en femme, and being on video is not something many people are comfortable with. I had hoped that maybe after a few episodes it would encourage others to think “I can do that!” and “that looks fun!” and we’d help others make a wish come true.

After a year and a half, the series hasn’t really gained the traction and momentum I had hoped, even factoring in the challenges I acknowledged. The most recent episode didn’t have a wisher, and I am wondering if the series will start featuring similar episodes where I do STUFF.

That’s not to say that we won’t continue to help others make their own wishes come true. I do want to hear from you if you want to be featured. I know a few girls have reached out to us and timing can be a challenge, but as of this writing we don’t have any future episodes planned.

But Shawna and Sophie and I have fun making them and we’d like to make more.

Sooooooo… is there anything you’d like to see me do? Any new experiences I should have? Anything you want me to do that you want to live vicariously through?

Please comment or email me!

Love, Hannah

  1. Here are some ideas for things new Wishers might like to do:

    • Go thrifting
    • Take a pottery class, or go to one of those paint-your-own places
    • Or a painting class?
    • See an art museum
    • Go to a craft show
    • Karaoke night
    • Go Roller Skating
    • Walk around the zoo
    • See a botanical garden
    • Have a tea party

Don’t you want to have your moment to be in the montage scene from Ferris Bueller, being fabulous while looking at art? Or be a rock star on stage with your own karaoke music video (singing non-copyright infringing music, because we can’t afford to license anything)? Or be your version of Alice enjoying tea with a couple lunatics in a park?

    Doesn’t that sound fun?!

  2. I go out enfemme all the time, for the last 20 years all over the country. but I find it hard to pose for videos and photos taken by others. We are our own worse critic… I like how I look taking selfies but hard to have the natural look posing for others.. Mary Jo

  3. I am sorry that Wish List hasn’t developed much traction. Distance and timing are be too issues to participation, but I suppose that it takes a measure of courage to be seen in a video. Some other obstacles might include fright or maybe concerns about privacy.

As for myself, a lack of imagination may be the biggest obstacle. I am hard pressed to come up with anything related to cross dressing thatI would like to do, but haven’t done.

  4. I think just going out dancing would be a nice night, though as Sophie noted that might be tough since we couldn’t license music. Of course, I’d use that as an excuse to insert my own music, so I guess this is really self-serving in the end.
