It’s Beginning to Look a Lot Like Grinchmas

Starting the holiday season with seeing a production of ‘How the Grinch Stole Christmas’ by the Children’s Theatre Company is my new favorite tradition.

For the third year in a row (that counts as a tradition, right?), I was invited to see a production of this wonderful and charming show. Although the musical has made a few small changes here and there over the last couple of years, which makes it super fun for those who have seen this more than once, the real fun is seeing it with an audience.

These shows are made for kids, so kids are in the audience (obviously) and they really, really get into it. The energy they create when they respond to The Grinch as he plays to them is contagious. The Grinch, like the magic of the season, is real to them. I may no longer believe in Santa but I’ve come to realize that holiday magic is what we as people create and believe in. It’s nice to spend an evening with people who are still writing letters to the North Pole.

Reed Sigmund is back as The Grinch and he is just… maniacal, charming, arrogant, charismatic, and magnetic. I am so glad he’s still playing this role. It’s hard to share a stage with The Grinch but the rest of the cast holds their own. Cindy-Lou Who, played by Chloe Sorensen is a tiny firecracker, and Young Max, played by Adelyn Frost in Friday’s show is an outrageously fun sidekick and often unwilling partner in The Grinch’s grinchy schemes.

For two hours everyone believed. Even the most jaded and cynical heart grew at least a couple sizes on Friday night.

Thank you to the Children’s Theatre Company for a wonderful night. Please go see this, especially if you are looking for a reminder of the magic that this season can bring.

Love, Hannah
