Go See. Go!

Before I could even read, Go Dog. Go! by P.D. Eastman was my favorite book. It had dogs in it! Dogs in cars! Dogs at work! Dogs! It also depicted exactly what an ideal party should be.

Now that I see this picture again, it’s very clear that the green dog is going to win this round of checkers.

At any rate, I was delighted that The Children’s Theatre Company was doing a stage adaption of this lovely book for their 2025/2026 season. The original book has very few words as it was written for younger audiences so I was very curious about how this story would be brought to life.

The actors did a wonderful job with telling the story through a combination of pantomime, nonsensical sounds, and body language. BUT there were also parts that were narrated by actors in both English and Spanish.

The Children’s Theatre is all about immersion. The actors play to the crowd and anticipate when kids react to the story. This is my favorite part. I love when the kids around me yell things like NO! when a dog asks if they like their hat, for example. I feel like the audience is in the play as well. Personally I LOVED the hats, lol.

On a side note, all eyes are on Minneapolis these days for heartbreaking reasons. We are showing how we as a community stand up for each other, and stand up with each other. I love my city more than ever and seeing the good we do warms my heart. Seeing the creativity and diversity on stage, and in the audience, was a wonderful way to spend a little time on a Saturday morning.

Thank you to the Children’s Theatre Company for inviting me to this show. This whimsical play runs through February 22nd. I hope you can see it!

Love, Hannah
