Lights, Camera, Action Once Again

Oh hi!

The world of video blogging is strange and new to me. There’s a lot to learn. I need to learn how to be on camera, I need to come to peace with, well, how I look on camera, being mindful of body language, movement, and a million other things.

Like most, ah, practical aspects of life, thinking about HOW to do something correctly in the technical sense isn’t second nature to me.

And this includes the technology aspects of making the Help Me, Hannah! videos for En Femme.

The first two videos we shot had sound issues. So, we know have new and different microphones. The new problem was the microphones weren’t compatible with Shannonlee’s camera. So, we used my iPhone to shoot the most recent videos at Malone Portraits.

I uploaded them the next day and that was that.

But that was NOT that.

Did you know that if you are shooting a video that is meant to be uploaded to YouTube it needs to be in landscape mode? I bet you did. I did not know this.

So, the footage was pretty unusable.

Back to the studio we went. Take two.

And honestly it was a miracle the reshoots came together as they did. My makeup artist was available, Shannonlee was available, the studio was available.

I think the reshoots are better than what we originally shot. I am more comfortable, chattier, more ME. The lighting is better, the sound is (hopefully) better, and the camera was in the right position.

Of course, not everything went smooth.

We realized that ALL of the footage we reshot for the third video of the day had sound issues. So we reshot the reshotted (not a real world) video.

I was very tired and I was reminded of how lucky I was to have such a good team, if you will. More than a team, though. I have such good friends.

Anyway, here’s a little outtake from the day.

Love, Hannah

  1. I find it strange to even hear the sound of my own voice. I can barely imagine scrutinizing my appearance, tone of voice and words for a professional presentation. But, I suppose like anything else, it gets easier and better with practice.
