Short and Sort of Sweet

Hi!

Just a very short post as I am traveling yet again for work so comments and the like will experience a short delay. I have posts scheduled to go live for now so there shouldn’t be a break for our regularly scheduled programming.

With all the traveling I do, and as much as I love being en femme, I think a lot about flying pretty. But you know? It sounds more fun than it probably is, lol. I mean, flying just keeps getting worse and more and more stressful. The extra anxiety of doing something new en femme, especially in an environment where there is so much security and scrutiny makes this idea seem less and less appealing.

Anyway, the above picture has nothing to do with anything but I like it so I wanted to share.

  3. I recently flew en femme. It had been a long time since I had done it – probably 6 years – and I thought I might not get another chance before I stop having business trips (hence no companions on the flight). First, it was just nice to get out of my “standard” but limited femme venues. I had NO problems with TSA. I had pre-check but got shuffled to a normal line because the pre-check line was too long. Face recognition using my drivers license said I was who I said I was! When I have traveled en femme I make a point of not muscling my carry-on into the overhead, BTW. I bring a carry-on for good reason – read on.

    When I got to Minneapolis, my connecting flight was delayed an hour which meant that I would not have enough time to change clothes before I met my colleagues. So, off I went to the family restroom and changed, removed polish and makeup. I made it back to the gate with time to spare.

    On the way home, I had a 6:00 AM flight. Up early to get dressed and caught the shuttle around 4:30. I had brought a nice dress but realized that I couldn’t wear it if I was going to take advantage of pre-check’s metal detectors. The lady at TSA didn’t blink when I passed through. I went through the metal detector and a buzzer went off. I was randomly selected to go through the milli-wave scanner which a number of trans person have had problems with. Apparently I had tucked well enough that no alarm bells went off there!

    The remainder of the trip was enjoyable with normal interactions with the cabin crew and those around me. It was actually relaxing to get out and about with my “other” gender. So, traveling may be a pain but I really didn’t encounter any additional pain being en femme.

  6. I have started flying en femme in the past year across Canada and Europe. I keep my head held high and find it such an affirming experience and overall positive experience.

    Security can be a mixed bag, however I haven’t had any experience that deters me, and a special shout out to Montreal Trudeau who couldn’t have done more to put me at ease.
