HommeMystere Review: Beautiful Bras

I think that many of us have a special relationship and fascination with clothes.  I can go through my closet and tell you where I purchased a specific dress or what occasion (or which mall, at least) I wore a pair of heels to.  We love what we wear for many reasons.  Sometimes we love what we love because of what it represents.  There a dresses I own that will never get rid of because I was finally able to wear them after losing weight.  They represent an accomplishment.  I still own the little black dress that I bought when I started to build my wardrobe (for real this time) after decades of purging.

Lingerie was my gateway drug, if you will, into a bigger world.  I would see mannequins in department stores modeling the most beautiful underwear I had ever seen.  Seeing a delicate bra with matching panties and stockings mesmerized me.  Lingerie wasn’t necessarily practical, it existed for the sheer purpose of being beautiful.

I own a lot of lingerie.  It’s a fun little secret to have on in male mode.  It can be as elaborate as a corset with stockings or as simple as a lacy bodysuit.  There’s always something to suit my mood.  As my lingerie wardrobe expanded, I started to realize that lingerie was more practical than I thought.

I have certain bras that I wear depending on my outfit.  A yellow dress and a black bra is not a good idea.  If the neckline of my dress is cut a certain way perhaps I need to wear a strapless bra.  If my dress is a little more form-fitting, then I skip the textured bra if I want a smoother look.  Some bras are better suited for my breast forms than others.

Most of my bras are of the push-up type (I need all the help I can get) but there are times I want to stay a little more connected to my femme side when I am in male mode.  Sometimes I wear a matching set and I want to be as discreet as possible.  After wearing HommeMystere‘s bras and panties all week, I am happy to say that I have found lingerie that accomplishes just that.

HommeMytstere generously sent over a beautiful selection of their bras, panties, and lingerie.  I’ll be breaking up my review into three shorter ones and I will follow up with panties and lingerie next week.  This review is all about bras.  🙂

I wore their Violet Bra and Krystal Bra (pictured above) this week and my first impression was how beautiful they were.  I own a lot of bras including ones by other designers who make lingerie for men but they tend to be made out of one fabric and one solid color.  As you can see from the picture, the Krystal Bra is mesh with white lacy accents and a delicate floral pattern on the mesh itself.  A small white flower finishes this look.  The Violet Bra also features duo fabric with a subtle silver highlight on the black lace.

The Krystal Bra has two hooks and the Violet Bra has three in the back which helps the strap lay flat against your skin. The shoulder straps are also fully adjustable.  The attention to detail is exquisite and I am impressed with the quality with both of these bras.  In my experience, bras designed for men tend to be a little on the cheaper side but as I put them on I couldn’t help thinking that these felt as high quality as women’s bras.

The fit is good and I recommend using a measuring tape to find your correct measurement.  The band has enough stretch to be a little forgiving, though.

When I wear a bra (regardless of what gender I am presenting as) I will either forget I have it on or it feels uncomfortable.  Sometimes you have to wear the uncomfortable one depending on the outfit, you know?  I was always aware I was wearing these bras, though.  But this was not an uncomfortable feeling.  I like the small tugging around my chest, I like the reminder I am wearing one.  The straps stayed in place and moved with me.  I didn’t need to adjust them throughout the day.

The tugging reminded me I was wearing a bra, but so did looking in the mirror.  I wore these bras with a t-shirt and I could clearly see that I had… something on under my clothes.  The bra straps were noticeable and I could see the imprint of the bra against my shirt.  But that is to be expected.  Yes, they lay flat against my skin but they are not invisible.  If you wear a bra, more than likely people will notice.  However, a layered look will minimize the look almost completely.

These are easily the most comfortable bras I own, however they are not going to be my go-to when I dress up.  The cups on these bras are not designed to be practical and I would not wear these bras with breast forms.  The cups are simply not large enough and there isn’t a lot of stretch for them to fit.

But that is okay.  I have other bras for my forms.  As I said earlier, bras and lingerie are more practical and versatile than I originally thought.  I love that I have bras for strapless dresses, bras for white blouses, bras to match a cute pair of panties, and bras for my breast forms.  These two bras are perfect for male mode.

So far my experience with HommeMystere is nothing but positive.  They are dedicated to making lingerie for men, but to be honest, it doesn’t feel like lingerie for men.  It feels like authentic lingerie.  It feels like… girl lingerie and that is the highest compliment I can pay.

Thank you to HommeMystere for providing these beautiful bras.

HommeMystere

I had always been fascinated by lingerie.  Growing up I knew everyone had to wear underwear, but I was mesmerized by how beautiful it could be.  I was in love with the different styles, the different fabrics, and how… elaborate it could be.  Matching bras and panties?  Perhaps pairing it with a garter belt and stockings?  Lingerie was your secret.  What you wore was for you.

This fascination never went away.  When I first started buying my own clothes, panties were the first thing I purchased.  Underdressing helps me stay connected to the beautiful side of me when I am in male mode.

Wearing lingerie isn’t always easy, though.  It is very much designed for someone with different… ah, anatomy than I have.  Sometimes it fits like a dream, sometimes it’s tighter or looser on me than I would like.

There are companies that specifically design and make lingerie for people who have the body shape and body parts that I do.  Again, this can be very hit or miss.  Not only can the quality be inconsistent, but the fit just isn’t quite right.

If I am wearing panties designed for men, it just… misses the point, I think, in a way I can’t quite put my finger on.  I think it’s because some panties feel like they simply made men’s underwear and dyed in pink or sewed a tiny rose onto the front.  They don’t… feel like panties.  Take the rose off and they are simply pink briefs.  Sometimes there is a added… pouch, I guess, sewn into them to accommodate my “feminine flaw” that just looks awkward and too much like boy underwear.

Bras for men can be disappointing, too.  I know that they are not meant to be practical and I have nothing that needs support, but the bras just… look too flimsy and boring.  This is a personal opinion and not meant to be a slight on any company at all.  I am thankful that there are so many options these days for those of us looking for lingerie.   I have gorgeous lingerie from many companies that I love to wear that helps me feel beautiful.

That being said, I am always looking for new companies that understand how to make bras and panties (and everything else!) for people with bodies like mine.  Google ‘lingerie for men’ and you will be provided with an array of options that fifteen year old me would have never dreamed possible.  I wear panties from some of these designers, but I mostly wear “girl panties”.

HommeMystere

Until now.  I have been aware of HommeMystere for some time and I was always impressed by their selection and variety of panties and bras.  I have always wanted to add their lingerie into my wardrobe and thanks to their generosity, I have some new beautiful items to wear.

Over the next week or so I will be reviewing the items they sent.  Sorry, no photo shoot 😉 but I am excited to share with you my thoughts and impressions!

The Allure of Velvet

I think it’s probably safe to say that a t-girl loves clothes.  I have a fascination with certain styles and fabrics.  I love a really cute peplum dress, I love leather, I love pleated skirts…oh, I could go on.

I think we have a certain emotional connection with many of the items that hang in our wardrobe.  I can pick out a pair of stilettos and think of a half dozen events that I wore them to.  I can remember when and where I found a certain bodycon dress that hangs in my closet.  I can recall how I felt when I tried on that flared skirt that I love so much.

The point is that, well, I love clothes.  I think some of this adoration comes from growing up and seeing a whole world of beautiful dresses, lingerie, and shoes that boys weren’t allowed to wear.  This helped fuel my curiosity and longing.

Not only was I fascinated with the clothes themselves, but there was a whole world of fabrics that were off-limits to me as a boy.  I never had patent-leather shoes, I didn’t have anything made of corduroy, and I certainly didn’t have silk underwear.

Of course, these days my wardrobe now includes Mary Janes, corduroy skirts, and if I am being honest, my lingerie drawer has panties in just about every fabric and texture you could possibly dream of.

One fabric that I was always mesmerized with was velvet.  Dark and seductive, it was a fabric that begged to be touched.  A girl in a velvet dress seemed mysterious, classy, and fashionable.  What’s more alluring than a girl like that?  I wanted to be a girl like that.  Thanks to Glamour Boutique‘s Black Crushed Velvet Fit and Flare Dress, I can finally be that girl.

081

My first thought when I slipped this on is how happy the dress made me feel that the sleeves were long enough.  It can be frustrating to try to find a long sleeve dress that fits, but this is perfect.  The shoulders in the dress are wide enough for it to fit comfortably and not compromise the length of the sleeves.

And the flare!

082

The dress has a seam under the bust which provides a very flattering fit but also creates a flirty flare for the skirt.  It’s not something I see in a lot of dresses and I appreciate how it downplays my longer torso.

084

I love when I put on a dress and I immediately think of an event I can wear it too.  This dress begs to be worn at a holiday party and December seems too far away.

086

I paired it with patent leather stilettos and nude stockings, but I think perhaps black stockings would work just as well.

As we grew up there were so many things that were denied to us, clothes we weren’t allowed to wear.  A dress like this evokes memories of those moments when we longed to wear something beautiful.  We have a second chance to finally have the wardrobe that we always wanted and I am so happy that this beautiful dress hangs in my closet.

A T-Girl Needs to Shine

I know I stand out.

Not because I am a goddess or the most beautiful girl on the planet, no, I stand out because I am a six foot tall (without heels, and I am never without heels) t-girl who is likely the most overdressed person wherever I am.  I can’t change who I am, so I may as well embrace it and make it work.

For a long time I was afraid to go out because I didn’t “pass” (because there’s no such thing) or blend in.  After a while I was tired of this keeping me from experiencing the world in the way I wanted so I left the house and never looked back.

Some days I stand out a little more because I want to stand out a little more.

I like wearing leather and I have dresses in my wardrobe that might turn a head at the mall, but would barely cause someone to bat an eyelash at a club.  Again, there are times I want to be noticed more than usual.

This dress is designed to get you noticed.  Anywhere.  Ladies, I present to you Glamour Boutique‘s Long Sleeve PVC Dress

045

I have a lot of dresses in my closet that I would consider pretty bold, but I think this outshines (literally, look at that glossy finish!) them all.  Made out of PVC, this dress shines bright which is not easy for a black dress to do.

046

It’s not always easy for a t-girl to find a dress that fits comfortably across the shoulders and has sleeves that are long enough, so I was thrilled to find that this dress fits like a dream.  PVC/latex/rubber/vinyl/leather are not very forgiving so finding a dress made out of these materials that fits isn’t always easy.  This dress was designed for girls like us and runs true to size.  Take your measurements before ordering.

044

Wearing a dress made out of material like this can be a little challenging, but it has a two-way zipper on the front and zips up or down the entire dress.  Simply step into it, and zip it all the way up.

If you want.

The dress is a lot more versatile than it appears as you can adjust how much cleavage or leg you want to show off.036

This is not a dress to wear while running errands.  This is a dress that, to be honest, is not designed to be practical.  Due to the PVC material, the dress is a little… noisy and doesn’t have a lot of stretch in the shoulders once you put it on.

049

But that’s not a bad thing.  There are some dresses I wear that show off my legs or my figure.  These are not dresses I wear to the mall and I think every girl needs a few outfits that are designed to do nothing except get you noticed.  Pairing any dress with fishnets and stilettos will give any outfit extra allure and this is no exception.

051

There’s no question that a dress like this makes a statement.  Whatever that statement is is up to you.  This is a super fun and super sexy dress.  Yes, not a dress to wear to Target, but it certainly inspired me to think of all the places where I could go in it.  🙂

The New Little Black Dress

I love how clothes can change…everything.  I love how certain patterns, colors, and styles can minimize or enhance certain characteristics of our body.  Black tends to be slimming, dresses with larger prints are usually flattering to us tall girls, and a skirt with horizontal strips can balance out a body that is considered top-heavy.

Of course, you should wear whatever you want.  There is also no standard one must meet to be beautiful or feminine.

That being said, I have always loved what peplum tops and dresses do for my figure.  Peplum dresses and tops have an extra piece of fabric that flares out around your hips.  Peplum style clothing is very versatile as it gives the appearance of hips to those who lack curves, but for those who are a little shapely it draws attention to other parts of our body.

Glamour Boutique recently sent me several dresses to model and to review and I am excited to share with you the first of those outfits.  I have modeled for Glamour Boutique in the past and I am excited to continue to work with them.

When I first started to build my wardrobe, I tended to gravitate towards black dresses as they were not only slimming, but they also gave off a sense of sophistication and class.  After a while, I drifted more towards brighter colors, bold patterns, and different styles.  I hadn’t added a black dress to my closet in years and I was at a point where it would take a really amazing black dress to be added to my closet…

…Such as Glamour Boutique’s Black Crossdresser Peplum Dress.  I looked at this dress on their website and I thought it looked cute, but nothing too spectacular.  When I opened the package the dress came in I was struck by how the photos didn’t really do it justice.  The dress was cuter than it appeared to be.

And then I tried it on.

077

071

Wow.  The dress gives me a little more curve, and the skirt is short enough (always a plus in my opinion) to show off my legs.  The top of me is pretty square-shaped so its not easy for me to pull off a hourglass look, but the cute little flare that cinches around my waist gives my body a lot more shape.

072

The bottom of the dress is in the style of a pencil skirt and it’s meant to be tight and straight.  This style helps even out my square shoulders and gives me an overall proportional look.  If you are tall like I am, it’s usually recommended to not pair a peplum look with heels, because this style can accentuate height, but as you can see I kept my stilettos and paired this dress with black stockings for a classic look.

The dress itself is true to size and when you order it please take your measurements correctly.  I went back and forth between two sizes and went for a size up and I am glad I did.  If a dress that is my size doesn’t fit me its usually because of the shoulders and not the hips, however this dress fit like a dream.  I was comfortable in it, I looked good in it, and even though I don’t drink, I felt like going to a cocktail party.

This is a fun, flirty dress.  The peplum style adds a little extra to the traditional little black dress but does not take away any of the style, timelessness, and sophistication.  I am so happy this is in my closet and I am excited to show it off the next time I go out to dinner.

Thank you to Glamour Boutique for providing this dress for this review.

Change Your Hair, Change Your Life!

I have always had dark hair.  The color suited me and it matched my eyebrows.  Black hair was just…me.  However, I’ve always been a little curious about what I would look like if I changed it up a bit.  I recently had the chance to find out.

The Breast Form Store sent me two items to review recently.  One of them was the amazing Jolie Thigh Pads and the other was a Mane Attraction Enchantress Wig

My first impression of the wig was…well, I was a little intimidated.  That sounds rather odd but when you go from a certain hair color and style for a long time it can be a little scary to make a change.  The wig is light brown (the official color is cocoa) and the ends of the hair curled in a fun, playful way.

Although this was a big change from what I was used to, I also was excited to wear it.  The color and style just screamed SUMMER to me.  It sounds silly, but I immediately thought it would be perfect with my new pink skirt and jean jacket.

Wigs are not always easy to buy.  Changing your hairstyle can change your entire look and our attitude, confidence, and how we think of ourselves is often tied into how we feel about how we present yourself.  The first time I tried it on was…well, it didn’t go well.  But that was not the wig’s fault.  If I was apprehensive about changing my look before, I was even more nervous after that.

I put the wig away until it was time for my last photo shoot.  I had my outfit picked out for the wig and I was excited to see if I could pull off a sassy, flirty, summer look.  Do you see what I mean about changing your hair and changing your life?  😉

When it was time to take pictures of my new hair, I changed into the outfit the wig inspired and Shannonlee and I went outside to take advantage of the outdoor light.  It was a beautiful and warm spring day and the sun cooperated magnificently.

010

As the photos progressed, I became more used to my new look.  I started to really love how the hair, the sun, and my outfit all seemed to be fueling my mood.  I was amazed by how much fun I was having.

003

These shots were the final photos of the day.  I had a few errands to run after the session and I kept the wig on.  I loved how it looked, I loved the impact it had on my mood, I loved that this change was something I could pull off.  I couldn’t help but check myself out in the mirrors at Target and the other stores I visited before going home.

009

There are many different options when it comes to buying a wig.  This particular wig is made of synthetic fiber which allows it to be washed if you do it properly.  The lace front allows the wig to blend in naturally and create a natural hairline.  Simply put, this wig does not look I am wearing a wig.

005

I imagine I’ll always be a raven-locked girl, but it’s fun to have a new summer look for a few months.

Thank you to The Breast Form Store for providing the wig for this review.
